A Composition for Careful Listening in the City
|
A Composition for Careful Listening in the City is an exhibition of imagined sound works by composer and sound artist Amnon Wolman. Wolman began exploring imagined sound in 1992, following a conversation with composer John Cage. Since then, he has developed works based on textual instructions that invite audiences to imagine sonic gestures and processes—creations that exist only in the minds of listeners, without any tangible sound.
This practice is part of Wolman’s ongoing research into listening as a subjective, internal, and personal process. Two central principles underlie these works: The perception of time as a non-linear process, allowing leaps in time and even backward movement. The second is the design of musical space using textual means alone, sparks the imagination of each participant.
